Continued from Part Sixteen

Jirel sat in his office, reviewing the accuracy of the quality NCOs. A knock sounded at the door. “Come in.”

A private first class entered along with a bearded man in blue jeans, an open denim jacket, and a white t-shirt. “Sir, this man wanted to see you, sir.”

The bearded man said, “Sergeant, with all due respect, alone please.”

Jirel sniffed and checked a smile. A saint. One soaked in fear, but still far cleaner than any human could manage on their own.

Jirel nodded. “Private, wait outside.”

“Sir, yes, sir!” The private left and closed the door behind him.

Jirel nodded respectfully to the child of the Most High. “Sir, how may I assist you?”

“Sergeant, I don’t even know why I came. You’re either going to think I’m crazy or kill me.”

“Why?”

The saint sent a nervous glance around the room. “I have a mission for you.”
